Hawkes vs Unkown XI (FO4-12/05/2010)

Hawkes started off with winning the toss and decided to field first.

Hawkes started with the high note with gold cup in mind, with enough practice under belt.

First over started by piyush Yadav with a nice break in the first over with kartik holding on to a difficult catch, getting a early break in the match.

Second over was bowled by sreenath , with some lucky and good shots by tapasvi scoring 12 runs in that over with the help of one six and one four.

Sreenath recovering great in last three overs with two awesome wickets.

Tapasvis wicket came in fifth over in piyush’s over with CHAI catching a very out of spin ball, great break through that hawkes needed.

Unknown XI was 36 in ten overs.

With some tight bowling from Piyush, PJ, sreenath, Chai and Pranai.

Hawkes was able to restrict Unknown XI, for 65 for 7.

Venkis awesome catch on the long off.

Excellent deceiving bowling by sreenath leading him a clean bowled and stumping.

Chai’s fearless bowling to restrict and get a wicket.

Great fielding shown consistently by anil, purab, and amar.

Pranai’s deadly bowling, keeping the batsman guessing everytime.

Sarbajeets beautiful runout from the point.

Batting.

Batting started on the high note from PJ and Venki.

Good start by the opening batsmen, intelligent batting and nice rotation of the strike.

Hawkes moving nicely towards the target and against the run of the play Pj got out.

Then there comes Kartik, Hawkes trusted batsman to the crease.

Venki and Kartik frustrating the Bowlers by getting 2’s and 3’s in almost every over.

Including a beautiful straight down the wicket four by kartik.

By 10 overs hawkes was 45/1.

And in 12.5 overs we finishsed the game handsomely with 9 wickets in hand.

Here u can show your writing skills to praise venki and kartik.

Very well deserved man of the match by Venki very well supported by kartik.

Apart from from couple drop catches

Hawkes vs Cosmos (FO3-11/14/2010)

To be in the hunt for the Platinum / Gold group, Hawkes needed to win the match against Cosmos by a margin of 20+ run if batting first, or chase down the opponents’ score in 16-odd overs.

Cosmos won the toss and decided to field first. This was a negative from Hawkes’ perspective, as we prefer chasing in our important matches.

Sarbajeet and Piyush started the innings for Hawkes. Sarbajeet played out the first over without any trouble; 3 runs came from wides. Piyush was out on the 2nd ball of the 2nd over with a sharp catch in the cover-point region. Sarbajeet and Kartik then had a 10-run partnership; until Sarbajeet was out caught-behind at the end of the 4th over. Hawkes was at a precarious 16 runs for 2 wickets at the end of 5 overs. In came Pranai and had a very fruitful partnership of 50 odd runs with Katik. Hawkes went into the 10-over break with supreme confidence as we were at a comfortable 48 for 2 after 10 overs.

The onslaught from Pranai and Kartik continued after the break with some intelligent hitting from Pranai and beautiful milking of the bowling from Kartik. The partnership was broken against the run of play when Kartik edged behind for a well-made 17 (24). Pranai continued from the other end and scored 34 (44) before getting out to a blinder at square-leg. The rest of the Hawkes team batters contributed towards getting a good total for Hawkes. Special mention to Amar [11(14)] for a straight six over long-on and Venki [5(6)] for the hoicked boundary over square-leg.

Hawkes ended their batting at a challenging 107 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

The Hawkes bowlers practiced on the pitch during the mid-innings break so as to get their line right. Hawkes was confident that with no extras and no dropped catches, we would be able to restrict Cosmos to a reasonable score thus bumping up our DRR.

Hawkes’ bowling started off on a disastrous note with Chai sending down the first three deliveries of the innings as leg-side wides. Cosmos ended the first over at 7 runs for 0 wickets. Piyush then bowled a good over and also induced an edge from their opener but Sarbajeet was unable to hold on to the sharp chance. The dropped opener was unable to do much damage as he was dismissed in the next over to a good catch by Venki at long-off in Chai’s bowling. The 1-drop batsman did not trouble the scorer and was out in Piyush’s 2nd over giving a catch to Anil at deep square-leg. Cosmos was at 16 runs for 2 wickets at the end of 4 overs. Overs 5 to 10 were extremely bad from Hawkes’ perspective as a lot of runs were scored by Cosmos. The major culprit in the large amount of runs is the number of extras (leg-side wides) we gave in this period. Cosmos went into the 10 over break at a comfortable 57 runs for 2 wickets.

Hawkes’ came out with a new-found resolve after the break and bowled and fielded their hearts out. We kept on getting consistent breakthroughs; and kept Cosmos scoring on a tight leash. The highlight of this period was the superb catch diving forward taken by Kartik at long-off. In the end, it came down to 14 runs needed by Cosmos off the last over bowled by Sankar. Here is the ball-by ball update of the last over:

1st Ball: pulled over mid wicket for 2 runs. The throw from Pranai came one-bounce to the keeper allowing the batsman to complete the 2nd run.

2nd Ball: Big 6 over long-on

3rd Ball: Pulled over mid-wicket for 4. Now 2 runs were required off 3 balls

4th Ball: Dot Ball

5th Ball: Dot Ball

6th Ball: Pulled over mid-wicket for 4 runs

Hawkes lost the game off the last ball. All-in-all, a good effort from all the players, but we came up short.

Highlights of the day:

  1. Innings: Pranai for his 34(44)
  2. Shot: Amar’s six over long-on
  3. Catch: Kartik for his stunner at long-off
  4. Spell: Piyush for his 4 overs - 10 runs and 1 wicket
  5. Fielding: Purab for his fine effort in the short-thirdman region

Game against HitnRun (FO2-10/31/2010)

Hawkes players were in the right mood to give the best against our opponents – HitNRun. Hawkes and HitNRun have a bit of history between them; with the last match between the two teams going down to the wire; Hawkes prevailed in that game with Pranai hitting a boundary off the penultimate ball of the innings.

This was a must-win game for Hawkes to keep us in the hunt for the Platinum/Gold round, after the crushing loss against Rangers.

HitNRun innings:

Hawkes started out with Chai and Sreenath bowling very well in tandem. Score was 8 for no loss at the end of 4 overs. Pranai and PJ then took over and bowled a testing spell for the HitNRun batsman. Pranai was excellent with his line-length and variations. PJ was a revelation as he bowled pretty well and got the first wicket for Hawkes with a sharp catch from Chai at Point. Pranai got the second breakthrough with a good catch from Sankar in the covers region. Sankar was introduced in the 9th over and he had an immediate impact with Pawan holing out to Purab at deep point. At the end of 10 overs, HitNRun was at a precarious 27 runs for 3 wickets.

The 11th and 12th over from PJ and Sankar passed with no big shots from the HitNRun batsman; as two of their batters, Jayanth and Karthik were consolidating. The 13th over released the pressure for the opponent batsmen as Chai gave away 7 runs in the over including 3 wides. The dangerous partnership was broken in the 15th over with a stumping off a beautiful leg-cutter from Pranai. Wickets were falling continuously for the opponent; but we kept giving freebies with mis-fieldings and dropped catches.

Overall, HitNRun finished at 73 runs for 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Hawkes gave away 46 runs in the last 10 overs, with atleast 10 extra runs due to mis-fieldings and dropped catches.

Hawkes innings:

Hawkes opened with PJ and Kartik but the start was not that good. Kartik gave a return catch to the last ball of the first over to a full-toss. Yours truly did not do too well at the 1-down position and was run-out going for a non-existent 2nd run. PJ batted nicely, but he too got out by the 5th over to a smart catch in the covers. Hawkes was 16 runs for 3 wickets at the end of 5 overs. There was a period of consolidation after that by Sreenath and Pranai. Hawkes ended the first 10 overs at an identical 27 runs for 3 wickets.

Sreenath and Pranai batted beautifully to get Hawkes to a position of strength. The partnership was broken by a controversial catch at covers with the whole Hawkes team deeming that the ball had bounced before the fielder took the catch. Anil, Amar and Chai did their bit in getting Hawkes near the winning total. Sreenath was playing a lone hand at the other end with a hit to the straight boundary. With the loss of Sreenath’s wicket and Hawkes needing 15 runs off 2 overs, it was left to the trio of Sankar, Venky and Purab to take Hawkes over the finishing line. 6 runs came off the penultimate over. In the last over, Hawkes needed 9 runs to win.

Last Over:

1st Ball - Sankar took a double; 7 more to go

2nd Ball - Sankar took a double; ; 5 more to go.

3rd Ball - Sankar hit a catchable shot to long-on; catch was dropped and 2 more runs added; 3 more to go.

4th Ball - 2 runs, No-ball + Single; 1 more to go.

4th Ball (Legal) - Venki tapped it to covers and ran a single.

Sankar did the great job of finishing the game with some lusty hits to the long-off and long-on fielders. Two dropped catches on two balls (one each in the penultimate over and the last over ) cost HitNRun 4 runs with some excellent running from Venki.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Sreenath for his 19 (38) and 1 wicket and of course the dropped catch :)

Stars Against Rangers (FO1-10/16/2010)

As promised by the mgmt, we had a team uniform and everyone is looking for the game to kick off. Our skipper has won the toss after a long long time, this gave extra confidence to the team to go on to the field. Our bowlers did a decent job in the initial overs to contain their openers not to score quickly. But due to some missed catches and missed fields Rangers had the upperhand at the 10 over mark. Right after the drinks, mirror sharne warne(guess who it is, none other than Googly SANKAR) took the control of the match for Hawkes and with his beautiful spin and googly's put a hault to the scoring. It was well supported by Piyush Yadav behind the wickets with real quick stumpings. Apart from all these there were 2 splendid catches(by Anil and Chai) on the field. It would be tough for me to judge which is better than the other. Finally with all the hassels from Hawkies, we had a stiff target;95 to chase.

With a positive intent Hawkes resumed thier batting with Kartik and PJ and things going cool for the openers. Suddenly there came a inswinging delivery from Rangers and PJ stumps were rattled and it was not positive sign for us and the following batsmans were going and coming back to the dugout. It was the final wicket which put us in some sort of comfort. It was AMAR, blasting their bowlers all over the park. Navpreet did hang with Amar to put 30+ runs for the final wicket.

  • Shot of the Week: Amar pulled Paritosh out of the park.
  • Ball of the Week: Yogesh bowled with a awesome googly from Sankar.
  • Catch of the Week: Anil holding onto a miracolus catch in the deep with sun on his eyes
  • Run Out of the WeeK: Navpreet direct shot from extra cover of the final ball in the innings.
Finally Player of the Week: SANKAR VENKATRAMAN for his outstanding effort with the ball.

Lets move forward

Here we are after 5 seasons in Cricbay and looking at 6th season with hunger for more cricket. Let me babble about the history of the Hawkes Cricket Club for the people wouldn't know about and for the people know about it but need some refresh. I would tell my side of the Hawkes History and hopefully you will get to here the other sides from rest of our gang.

Hawkes Cricket Club born from an coffee table conversation between 3 friends, Deepak Garise, Hemanth Rama and Kartik Kadam. Unfortunately We dont have Deepak (currently live in india ) and Hemanth playing with us anymore but we are fortunate enough to have Kartik.

As I remember It was a very bumpy ride for Hawkes at the beginning. We had our ups and downs and struggling to get it under control. As the First Captain of Hawkes CC, Deepak was fearless, determined and very enthusiastic. I always admire his strong leadership and handling pressure when it gets heat up on the field. Sometime he make the game go heat up... :) But he always got everybody together and lead us the way. I was one of the players would get up and oppose his many dissions, But now as the Captain of Hawkes after him, I know exactly how much pressure he handle. Hats of to you Deepak. And Thank you for putting effort and time to create this team so we all can enjoy today.

My self and few more players who currently playing in HawkesCC is very proud to be part from the very first game Hawkes had on March 16th 2008 against Daakus. (Score Sheet) Players who had witness our first game would be Kartik Kadam, Piyush Yadav, Sreenath Kotamala and Anil Komma. We lost the game that day but we got our selves together and here we are in our 6th season in Cricbay. You may dont know that we faced Daakus not knowing they will be our first opponent in Cricbay career, week before the game week for a Practice game. We won that game and as I remember Kartik was on fire that day. So technically, We won our first game against a Cricbay team :)

What can I say about the team today?? We have THE winning team. Winning team that capable of restricting any opponent team 50runs with our strong bowling attack.... Winning team that capable of chasing over 100 runs with our amazing batting attack.... Winning team that capable of making any opponent team batsmen to think twice before hitting in air or stepping out from the batting crease with extraordinary fielding skills... MOST IMPORTANTLY WE ARE A WINNING TEAM THAT ANY TEAM SHOULD BE SCRAED OF!!

We have achieve a lot since the beginning, Now its time take it to the next step. WIN A CUP. We came close many times... we had the perfect team but still we failed. NOT ANY MORE!!! put all our loses in the past and lets get ready to face the new season with much more passion and enthusiasm.

Help us to improve HawkesCC by sending us your thoughts and suggestions.

Famous Win against Spartans!!!!!!!!!!!

This was a much awaiting game for us, Hawkes hosting Spartans. And most memorable game in HAWKES History and will be remembered for a long long time.It wasn't the best of the weather to play cricket on the day, Wind's are blowing around 20mph.Spartans won the toss and had no hesitation to bat.

Our opener bowlers Sreenath and Chai started well intandum with wind behind them. And it was a day for Chai to lead from the front as Captain and lift the spirits of Hawkies from Challengers jolt we had last week. To his credit, Spartans are on the back foot loosing 2 quick wickets.I didn't see him bowling with that Speed and accurate in the past. Sreenath and Chai did an AWESOME job with the Ball. It was a well supported job by rest of the bowlers too and We restrict FALL OPEN 2009 Champions to 63.Our bowlers gave a good chance to our batsman to crack at the total.

Hawkes didn't have a good start with the bat, lost Bala early. And Pranai went 1st down and had a decent partnership with Sreenath and gave a hope to rest of the team. After that its was all ANIL ANIL ANIL, who had a fantastic day with the bat. It was the clean hits from Anil, gave Hawkes the 2nd hope and slowly we r reaching the target. And finally it boiled down to 18 from 18. It was not easy for a new batsman to go there and make runs, but Chamara and Venki, made it easy to score a boundary each and took close to the target. It was these fours yield the pressure in the final overs.

Finally the DREAM came true for Hawkies Beating the FALL OPEN 2009 Champions. And Undoubtedly THE MAN OF THE DAY was ANIL.Hats off to ANIL and CHAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
