The match against Yuva XI is the first of ranking matches of Hawkes within platinum group. Having got it postponed from last week, due to bad weather, Hawkes team got into the field on Saturday morning with confidence. One of the special thing about the team today was out of 11 players 5 of them were Sri Lankans. Perhaps Hawkes is the team with the highest Sri Lankan representation.
We lost the toss this time too but fortunately Yuva XI captain decided to bat first. Chai started the balling attack with Swamy and those guys did a tremendous job containing the batsmen. Eran initiated their collapse with a deceiving run out and Chai and Swamy tightened the pressure with early wickets. Swamy came back from his bad memories and did a great job today. At the end of four overs the scores remained at around 12 runs with 3 lost wickets. Sreeni took over from Chai and Eran took over from Swamy to continue the balling attack. Both of them did a good job again to contain the batsmen. Sagar did a good spell and our new talent Bheeshma never gave a chance to the batsmen even to think about hitting boundaries. Bheeshma's balling was spot-on today and we expect more good spells to come from him in future matches. From fielding side, Ravin took couple of wonderful catches and Ashish, Asintha (who had to travel from Sacremanto just for this match) and Sulo did a great job on off side limiting the runs. Parijat did a great job behind the stumps and Sagar took a not so easy catch in long on area. Overall all the players did a great job on the field in this match.
We started our batting with Ravin and Parijat targeting 75 runs to win. Ravin got out early playing a lazy lofted on drive. Ashish joined Parijat to help the chase. Pari got out with 9 runs hitting a wonderful 4 towards long off area. Then Eran joined Ashish to continue the batting attack. Ashish struggled a little bit that day but scored valuable 13 runs. Eran, as usual, hit couple of quick shots and got out at 13. Sulo and Sagar tried to build a good partnership but Sagar got out unexpectedly putting some presure on us. Chai tried to accelerate the score by hitting a good shot over mid-wicket area but a fielder took a good catch to send him back. We took our batting power play at the 17th over and we needed 14 runs in 18 balls to win. Swamy got out and Bheeshma and Srini got into the middle to bring another victory to the team. Srini, with his signature shot over long off, scored a well needed 6 runs to shatter all the hopes of Yuva XI and secure a good victory for Hawkes today. It was a much needed victory for us to stay on top of the Platinum second eight and credit goes to all the ballers and batsmen who put their best effort today. Next week it will be with InfinityCC to find our spot between 9th and 12th positions. Go Hawkes !!
On a side note, it was Swamy's last match with us as he will be moving to India. We'd like to thank him for all the good things he did for the club and wish him good luck with all his future endeavors.
